A 35-year-old man, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter under particularly aggravated circumstances following a traffic accident in Tranbjerg south of Aarhus, where three people died, has been remanded in custody.
The accident occurred on the highway on Wednesday around 10:10 PM, during an overtaking maneuver, where the 35-year-old collided head-on with an oncoming car carrying five elderly individuals. This happened at a speed of 114 km/h on a stretch where the maximum speed limit is 80 km/h.
Three individuals aged 77-87 lost their lives, and two others, aged 78 and 79 respectively, were seriously injured.
The 35-year-old was subsequently arrested at 11:03 PM a few hundred meters from the scene and charged in the case. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
On Thursday afternoon, he was presented in a custody hearing in absentia at the Court in Aarhus, as he was still hospitalized for treatment and thus physically unable to appear in court. He has now been discharged and thus was presented in a new custody hearing on Saturday.
At Saturday’s custody hearing, the 35-year-old was remanded in custody until October 23rd.
A publication ban is in effect in the case.
